Sears Helps Washington, D.C. Residents Access Up to $300 in Rebates on ENERGY STAR® Qualified Appliances
Sears Blue Appliance Crewâ„¢ to Help Residents Switch to Energy Efficient Appliances and Save
The Sears Blue Appliance Crew™ is helping Washington, D.C. residents access the $568,000 available in rebates for ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances beginning Sept. 20 until funds are exhausted, as part of the "Cash for Appliances" rebate program. As the 2010 ENERGY STAR Retail Partner of the Year, Sears has revamped its website, Sears.com/energystar, to include even more tools to help Americans learn about ENERGY STAR, search for rebates and credits, find the right appliance and dispose of the old one properly, and take small steps to make a big difference. In an effort to help Washington, D.C. residents better manage the rebate process, the Sears site also includes an interactive map, energy savings rebate calculator and information about ENERGY STAR products that qualify for rebates so customers can quickly and easily identify their favorite brands and models that are available for in-store purchase.
"At Sears, we're always looking for ways to make it easier and more affordable for Americans to swap out their old, inefficient appliances for new, ENERGY STAR models," said Doug Moore, president of Home Appliances for Sears. "This rebate money will go quickly, so we encourage our customers in D.C. to take advantage of the stimulus plan as early as possible to ensure access to the funds."
Under the U.S. Department of Energy-approved appliance rebate plan for Washington, D.C., residents are eligible for mail-in rebates from $50 to $300(I). In order to qualify, residents are required to replace their old appliances with new, ENERGY STAR qualified models and show proof of haul-away of the old appliance from a participating retailer, such as Sears. Furthermore, in D.C., the following rebates are limited to one appliance category per household:
-- $50 for refrigerators -- $50 - $75 for dishwashers -- $100 - $125 for clothes washers -- $300 for electric heat pump water heaters (Energy Factor < or = 2.0)
Washington, D.C. residents are also eligible for rebates on energy efficient, whole-house heating and cooling systems including high efficiency gas storage water heaters, gas boilers and gas furnaces. Residents who are interested in purchasing these systems can visit Sears.com/energystar for a complete listing of qualifying products and available rebates, or call Sears Home Services at 1-800-766-6298 to arrange an in-home appointment.
To help families make the switch to energy efficient appliances, Sears recently launched an initiative called The Big Switch. The program challenges American families to make the switch to five million ENERGY STAR qualified appliances while also recycling appliances by taking them off the grid and saving families more than $2,500 on their utility bills(II). Consumers can learn more about the available rebates and ways to reduce their energy and water consumption at SearsBigSwitch.com.
"We hope to create a movement with The Big Switch that encourages even more customers to consider ENERGY STAR qualified appliances, take the ENERGY STAR Pledge, and learn more about the small steps they can take to make a difference for our environment," added Moore. "Programs like the Sears Big Switch, the Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD) program and national Cash for Appliances rebate program truly make it easier and more affordable to help customers remove and recycle their appliances."
For Washington, D.C. residents interested in purchasing energy efficient, ENERGY STAR qualified appliances the Sears Blue Appliance Crew will assist shoppers from start to finish. They can:
-- Provide information about which appliances qualify for rebates in store and online at Sears.com/energystar -- Help shoppers find rebates - searching by product category and customer's zip code -- Submit rebates for purchases electronically, before they leave the store -- Provide customers with the replacement and haul-away documentation required in order to receive the rebates -- Remove customers' old appliances and dispose of them in a responsible manner
