Sears May Comparable Sales Decrease 3.3 Percent
Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) announced total domestic store revenues for the four weeks ending June 2, 2001 were $2.30 billion. Comparable domestic store revenues decreased 3.3 percent. Total domestic store revenues decreased 2.8 percent compared to $2.37 billion for the four weeks ending June 3, 2000.
"May was another challenging month as the slowing economy continued to affect sales and cooler weather discouraged consumers from purchasing seasonal items. We did, however, see a solid increase among our specialty store formats led by strong sales increases from Sears Automotive Group and solid Hardware store increases," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alan J. Lacy. "While Full-line stores sales were down, major appliances continued to be a bright spot registering solid increases."
