Sears Donates $25,000 to American Red Cross for Flood Relief Efforts In Houston
Sears, Roebuck and Co. has contributed $25,000 to the American Red Cross to help with flood relief efforts in Houston.
"Many of our associates and customers at our 14 Sears stores in the Houston area are affected by the terrible flooding, and we felt strongly that we wanted to do something locally to help our neighbors in need," said Steve Kendziera, Sears district general manager. "Responding to the communities where we live and work has always been a priority for Sears. This is clearly the time to demonstrate Sears support for the people of Houston."
Sears is a national sponsor of the American Red Cross, donating $1 million over five years to disaster relief services throughout the nation.
"The devastation is immense," said Dr. John Clizbe, vice president of Disaster Service for the American Red Cross. "The dollars that have been donated to the Red Cross are being used to help thousands of families throughout the flood stricken area. Corporate donations like this from Sears help extend the reach of our services."
Last year, Sears and its associates, along with The Sears-Roebuck Foundation, contributed more than $44 million in funding and merchandise to a variety of family-focused health, human service, education and other civic organizations nationwide. In addition, Sears associates and their families provided more than 375,000 hours of volunteer service for community projects throughout the country.
