Sears Adds Mattresses to Over 400 Stores
Re-Entry Into Market Spurred by Customer Demand
Customers of Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) can now purchase a complete bed set, including mattress, foundation, headboard and frame, at over 325 Sears stores. By year end, the merchandise will be in more than 400 Sears stores nationwide.
Sears decision to re-enter the mattress/foundation market after seven years was spurred by consumer loyalty and feedback. "Sears is synonymous with the home for many customers, and they've told us they want and expect mattresses and foundation options," notes Ty Nicosia, Sears divisional merchandise manager for mattresses.
Partnering with three industry leaders -- Sealy, Serta and Leggett & Platt -- enables Sears to provide customers with a wide variety of choices at competitive prices.
Serta will offer its Perfect Sleeper brand, while Sealy will bring Posturepedic, Crown Jewel and the Stearns and Foster brands to Sears. Headboards and frames will be available from the Fashion Bed Group and Steel Products Divisions of Leggett and Platt, the country's largest frame manufacturer.
In addition, due to customer demand, the exclusive Sears-O-Pedic® will be available, Nicosia noted. Sears sleep shops range 1100 square feet to 1600 square feet.

TEN TIPS FOR GETTING A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP Provided by the Better Sleep Council 1) Give yourself "permission" to go to bed. As hard as it may be to put away your "to do" list, make sleep a priority. You'll thank yourself in the morning. 2) Unwind early in the evening. Try to deal with worries and distractions several hours before bedtime. 3) Develop a sleep ritual. Doing the same things each night just before bed signals your body to settle down for the night. 4) Keep regular hours. Keep your biological clock in check by going to bed around the same time each night and waking up close to the same time each morning -- even on the weekends. 5) Create a restful place to sleep. Sleep in a cool, dark room that is free from noises that may disturb your sleep. When a bedroom is too hot or too cold, both quality and quantity of sleep are compromised. The optimal temperature for sleep is between 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit or 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. If outside light makes your room too bright, try an eye mask or a window covering that darkens the bedroom. Just as light cues our bodies to wake up, darkness cues us to sleep. 6) Sleep on a comfortable, supportive mattress and foundation. It's difficult to sleep on a bed that's too small, too soft, too hard, or too old. A mattress that's past its prime can also cause sleepers to become restless, with their muscles working overtime to support their bodies. Bigger mattresses provide more comfort. If you sleep with a partner, your mattress should allow you both enough space to move easily during the night. 7) Exercise regularly. Regular exercise can help relieve daily tension and stress -- but don't exercise too close to bedtime or you may have trouble falling asleep. 8) Cut down on stimulants. Consuming stimulants, such as caffeine, in the evening can make it more difficult to fall asleep. 9) Don't smoke. Smokers take longer to fall asleep and wake up more often during the night. 10) Reduce alcohol intake. Drinking alcohol shortly before bedtime interrupts and fragments sleep.
