Sears August Comparable Store Sales Increase 0.2 Percent

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) today announced total domestic store revenues for the four weeks ending September 1, 2001 were $2.2 billion, a 0.5 percent increase compared to the four weeks ending September 2, 2000. Comparable domestic store revenues increased 0.2 percent.

"Overall, while the retail environment continues to be challenging, our August comparable stores sales represent a modest improvement from recent trends," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alan J. Lacy. "In Full- line stores, appliances and home decor delivered double-digit sales increases over last year. In our specialty retail formats, Dealer stores and The Great Indoors posted strong sales increases."
