Sears In-Store Blood Drives Postponed

Later Scheduling Permits Agencies to Meet Ongoing Needs

To help with emergency relief efforts on the East Coast, Sears, Roebuck and Co. today held a blood drive at its corporate headquarters in Hoffman Estates where 200 people, including employees and the public, donated blood to the American Red Cross. Because of the overwhelming number of volunteer donors throughout the nation, Sears has postponed efforts to coordinate in-store blood drives. This later scheduling will enable the American Red Cross and other agencies to sustain their efforts over a longer period of time to meet ongoing needs.

Sears will issue local announcements as in-store blood drives are coordinated.

Separately, Sears today began accepting customer and employee donations at all Sears full-line stores, Sears Hardware stores, Orchard Supply Hardware stores, Sears Dealer stores, Sears Outlet stores, The Great Indoors, and other Sears facilities nationwide and n Puerto Rico. Customers are making contributions at Sears cash registers with cash, Sears Gift Cards, checks or their Sears Card, and through .

In addition to giving a minimum of $1 million in immediate aid, Sears has donated generators and other merchandise to relief workers. The company and its employees will work closely with local agencies to determine other ways to help with relief efforts where needed.
